Youth4Climate & UNDP – Enabling Institutional Electric Cooking at Scale

Feion Green Ventures Ltd proudly recognizes Youth4Climate (Y4C), an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), for their strategic support of the Jiko- Kul Initiative: Accelerating Institutional Electric Cooking through Demonstration, Piloting, and Market Outreach.

Through this partnership, Youth4Climate has played a catalytic role in advancing youth-led climate innovation while addressing one of the most pressing challenges in public institutions: dependence on firewood and other polluting cooking fuels.

From Innovation to Institutional Demonstration

With support from Youth4Climate, Feion Green Ventures successfully implemented Milestone 1 of the Jiko-Kul Initiative between April and October 2025. This phase focused on translating innovation into real-world application through demonstration cookers, school-based pilots, and structured market outreach

Key outcomes enabled by Youth4Climate include:

  • Development of three high-capacity Jiko-Kul electric pressure cookers for institutional demonstration;
Jiko Kul EPC 100L
Jiko Kul EPC 200L
Jiko Kul EPC 500L
  • Installation of two demonstration units in active secondary school kitchens, validating usability and operational relevance;
Jiko Kul EPC 200L (Peter Kariuki
Secondary School)
Jiko Kul EPC 500L (Lugulu Girls
Secondary School)
  • Deployment of a mobile demonstration unit for exhibitions, conferences, and stakeholder engagement.

These investments moved Jiko-Kul beyond concept and into live institutional environments where performance, acceptance, and impact could be directly observed.

Creating Measurable Climate and Social Value

The supported school demonstrations revealed early but compelling results. Schools reported reduced reliance on firewood, faster cooking times, improved kitchen efficiency, and reduced labor demands for cooking staff. Beyond operational benefits,

The demonstrations sparked positive engagement among students, parents, and administrators, reinforcing clean cooking as both a climate and education-sector priority

By prioritizing demonstration and data-driven learning, Youth4Climate strengthened the evidence base needed to support future procurement, financing, and scale-up decisions.

Unlocking Markets and Regional Opportunities

Youth4Climate’s support also enabled Feion Green Ventures to engage directly with institutional buyers, policymakers, utilities, and development partners through seven high-impact exhibitions and summits. These engagements generated strong demand signals from schools, TVETs, and county governments, while initiating discussions on manufacturing scale-up and financing

Notably, this phase facilitated Feion’s first regional expansion, including the appointment of a distributor in Uganda and completion of the first international sale validating the regional relevance and scalability of institutional electric cooking solutions.

A Partnership Advancing Youth-Led Climate Solutions

Youth4Climate’s support exemplifies the power of targeted, youth-focused climate finance. By backing demonstration-led adoption, evidence generation, and ecosystem engagement, the partnership has accelerated progress toward emissions reduction, sustainable school feeding systems, and inclusive clean energy transitions.

As Feion Green Ventures prepares for the next phase of scale-up, we remain deeply grateful to Youth4Climate and UNDP for their trust, collaboration, and commitment to empowering youth innovators to deliver tangible climate impact.
